Is it Hard To Be a Woman in Today's Society?

By: Jaya Bajaj

To make your mark in today’s society you need to be strong, confident, resilient, and hardworking. Even when women have been all those things, they are still being looked down upon. Although women have surpassed men in various fields, it still feels that our work continues to go unrecognized. As of 2019, women are earning an average of 69 cents of every dollar that a man earns. Even though women have been paid less, we still end up being told to do twice the work. As a female, I think that it is important to acknowledge the great accomplishments that generations of women have achieved to make a difference in today’s society.

Being a woman years ago was a struggle because even if women suppressed the rules and regulations that society put on us, we felt like we have broken the misogynistic norm of reality. This is unfair because, like our male counterparts, we should be getting the same opportunities as them and able to express our thoughts and feelings freely.

In today’s society, women have come far and made their mark as strong leaders and confident individuals. Women have shown that society is something that we don’t need to worry about if we want to have dreams, we should chase them and have the right to do so. They have shown that if society is not giving you a chance, go out and get it and don’t stop going after it.

After watching the biographical film “Joy”, viewers were able to see an example of women overcoming hardships in the world of business. It focuses on Joy, the leading protagonist, wanting to sell a product and make her name as an entrepreneur. Although there were difficult situations that she (Joy) had to overcome, as a woman in the working world, we get to see the power of resilience and bravery, several thousand women in her position occupy each day.

Women have worked hard no matter what timeline, we have learned to say “enough is enough”. Today’s society is home to many strong female leaders and potential ones too.
