The Sabre's Scoop Submissions Project

Here at Sandalwood, we wanted to give creatives at our school the opportunity to share their work - members of the Sabre's Scoop or not. Here are some of the amazing submissions we got.

I am so proud of you

"This poem is one of many I wrote this year. After an epiphany I had about my self worth and achievements. I realized how bad of a friend I am to myself. I would never belittle my best friend the way I belittle to myself, and the thought of people I love treating themselves the way treat myself makes me sick to my stomach. So hopefully his poem can be uplifting and encouraging to my fellow students in an effort to be nicer to themselves."

You woke up

Inhaled, then exhaled

And decided to continue.

Do it again tomorrow,

With that strength and determination, I know is deep within you.

It’s a feat; I know

You deserve a treat, you did so well,

Continue although,

I know it feel like a burden to have to repeat,

just take it one by one, steady and slow.

You tossed and turned

Fidgeted and wormed

Submerged yet you still resurged.

You were able to conquer a whole day.

You’ve done it before and can do it again.

What d’ya say?

Even if you did nothing, getting up and trying is all that truly has weigh.

I am so proud of you

These are not empty words

I mean every bit, each syllable rings true.

There is no purposeless day, each and every one is a chance to renew.

24 hours, twenty four hours, and you came out alive.

It doesn’t matter if you thrived, or simply survived.

I am so proud of you.

Written from the soul with love and warm wishes

"This poem depicts the journey of body image and acceptance. It shows the change of thoughts from the past and how they have developed over this journey. This piece displays the development of my beliefs and values; the influence my age and gender have played on my journey; the evolution of my strengths and weaknesses; and how I have grown and created a sense of belonging for myself."

When people say roses are red,
When world believes violets are blue,
It is because what they see from their eyes and assume its true.

Only if truth could be seen,
Justice would not be a dream.

A beam of light in the words of wisdom,
Or is it just political power suppressing us under there grump?

We are feeded with sorries and carried in false promises,
Experiments are conducted and we are just fellow hypotheses.

They say, terrorism is in a religion,
They say, your kin is determined on the colour of your skin,
Then why do they slave others in the name of a peaceful vision,
Why do they blame an innocent and not consider it a sin.

Love is pretty, love is amazing
But loving someone apart from the rules of society is labeled selfish and petty,
If you are even slightly different, this world could be fazing.

I weep my eyes until they hurt,
Just thinking about how they try to divert.

Divert our mind from discrimination,
The ones that happen within the system.

News channels would show us what a havoc protests cause,
But they would not show what havoc the protestors have come across.

The disrupting abandonment of their rights,
Forcing them to put up these fights.

The walls we are kept in,
The one that people deny exists,
What possibly could they say when they can’t display their gifts?

And it is disturbing when people try to win,
Win back the freedom they have been kept from,
Win back the equality they never got,
Just to get a position in the world,
But does this world deserve a beauty of talent like them?

Does the world deserve those gems?

So when the next time people say roses are red,
when the next time world believes violets are blue,
question their sincerity,
think of the motive of this rant,
these are not just words,
they leave my heart bland.

"In fact, I love to do artwork. I have a lot of experience in designing and refreshing the image I have created, even if it is a picture."

"This piece represents my feeling that I felt during the time my father was battling cancer and passes away."

"On March 14th & 19th, the ESL A, B & C students in Quad 3 had an outdoor education coordinator Rob Ridley join our class for a hands on experience to tap maple trees located in the forest behind Sandalwood Heights. Students learned about different trees, birds, and animals indigenous to Ontario. They learned about the tools used to tap a maple tree and the 3 buckets collected sap from the trees. Through a video chat, we then saw how Jack Smythe Field Centre processes the sap to make its own pure maple syrup."
