Finding Inspiration During the Time of the Pandemic

By Jaya Bajaj

As the world is sitting on the hope that the Coronavirus will go away, it’s still here, and that is what everyone is upset about the most. I think that I speak for most of the people when I say that quarantine has made our lives boring. I know doing the same thing that we did yesterday on repeat is not ideal but if we stay home, we can stay safe.

My big question for you is, what inspires you during these times? I know that everyone all around the world has come up with ideas to help other people. An example is how I watching videos on how at the start of the pandemic, a man in Italy began playing the saxophone for his neighbours, boosting morale and helping out with his community. Always try your best to be the person who spreads good in the world, and I promise you, it’s one of the easiest and most rewarding things you could do.

Over time, being in quarantine may have even done some good. Quarantine may have influenced people to become good Samaritans, it gave us some "me" time, and people who didn't live at home before, were able to return to their hometowns and stay with family. This lockdown has given us time to spend quality time with our loved ones more. My inspiration has always been getting outside but now that everything has been slowed down it makes me feel like I can enjoy the great outdoors and understand myself a little bit better.

Inspiration can come from what we look at or hear constantly or can even be found in a person that we see every day. Inspiration is something people need no matter what because it can be the grounds for our motivation and our strength. I want you to take a minute and think, maybe even write it down, what are some things that I am? Now look at the list, these are your strengths. See how simple that was! Coming up with a list of our strengths is way easier when finding out our inspirations.

Inspiration is not a one-way street, which means you don’t need to draw all the inspiration from one place. I focused on your strengths in the last couple of sentences, now I want to focus on what can bring inspiration, that spark and that missing piece back to you. Before we get on to that I have one last activity. I want you to get a pen and paper and write down places you feel most calm. It can be anything. Like when doing yoga or going for a morning jog, or watching TV. Now I want to ask yourself, what is making you feel calm when doing this activity? Are you calm when doing this practical activity?

The list you made has places that make you feel calm, and when someone is calm they are more likely to have an idea. Good ideas can be formulated when you are relaxed and just like that, you get inspiration. Mark Zuckerberg (the founder of Facebook) got this idea by sitting in his dorm room at university and now he is one of the richest people in the world. Maybe you can be the next Mark Zuckerberg. Inspiration can be for an invention or can be for a missing piece. Ever heard of writer's block? Sometimes there can be a block of ideas and you just need to feel inspired. Sometimes you need inspiration so you don’t feel so down. Whatever reason try out the activities. If I am being honest, I had writer's block when writing this article!
